At the University of South Dakota (USD), undergraduate student Nicholas Rasmussen has been actively experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) to solve timely problems. Here are the details of his projects: Footwear Impression Evidence Verification: Rasmussen’s project focuses on using AI-guided tools to extract distinguishing features from shoe prints.Law enforcement can better track criminals at crime scenes by analyzing shoe prints.He explored the use of a neural network called “U-Net” to process and compare shoe prints in a large database.The refined research could empower “super detectives” who utilize AI in the field while the trail is still fresh.
