Here’s how Carolina faculty use AI

At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill), faculty members are actively ensuring that students become literate in artificial intelligence (AI). As part of the Carolina AI Literacy initiative, Professor Daniel Anderson from the College of Arts and Sciences’ English and comparative literature department developed training modules. Last summer, English composition students used generative AI platforms throughout their course, experiencing both helpful AI assistance and instances of “AI hallucinations” (false references). This practical exposure taught students valuable lessons in verification and responsible AI use. UNC-Chapel Hill researchers are also involved in developing AI tools for the classroom, focusing on natural language processing, computer vision, and machine learning.
