Implementing Honor Code Changes
SUMMARY
Wesleyan University has implemented a new section of its Honor Code specifically addressing AI usage in academic work. Starting from the Fall 2023 semester, any unauthorized use of “words, ideas, and images generated by artificial intelligence” is defined as plagiarism under the university’s Honor Code. The change was a result of efforts by a task force that worked over the summer to combat the growing use of AI among students. The Community Standards Board evaluates cases of suspected AI use, including students attempting to pass off AI-generated text as their own original work.
