Collaborative AI Practice Assignment
Once you’ve created your account and logged in, familiarizing yourself with the BoodleBox interface through an interactive activity will help you make the most of its features. Here’s a sample activity to incorporate on orientation day.
Step 1: Assign Topics
Divide the class into small groups and assign each group a complex topic.
Example Topics: Environmental Science Class
- Group A: Ocean Acidification
- Group B: Deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest
- Group C: Urban Heat Islands
- Group D: Microplastics Pollution
Step 2: Research Using AI
Have students use collaborative AI to research their topics and draft an initial report.
Example Research Prompts: Environmental Science Class – Ocean Acidification Group
- “Explain the causes and effects of ocean acidification”
- “Provide recent data on ocean pH levels”
- “List major species affected by ocean acidification”
Step 3: Evaluate AI Output
Ask each group to critically evaluate their AI-generated content, fact-check the information, and enhance it with their own analysis and insights.
Example Analysis: Environmental Science Class – Ocean Acidification Group
- They cross-reference the pH level data with recent scientific publications to ensure accuracy.
- They notice the AI didn’t mention the impact on coral reefs, so they add a section on coral bleaching.
- They enhance the report by including a case study of the Great Barrier Reef.
- They add their own analysis of potential solutions, such as seaweed farming and enhanced weathering.
Step 4: Present Findings
Finally, have groups present their findings, explaining how they collaborated with AI and what they learned from the process.
Example Presentation:
- They explain how they used AI to generate an initial report and gather data quickly.
- They share how they fact-checked the AI’s information.
- They discuss their process of enhancing the report with additional research and their own insights.
- They reflect on what they learned about their topic and about working with AI
This example demonstrates how students can effectively collaborate with AI while developing critical thinking skills, subject knowledge, and an understanding of AI’s capabilities and limitations.
