Rhetorical Analysis of AI Project in First Year English Composition

Teaching and Learning with AI Conference Session: This talk will discuss a project where students in a first-year English composition course looked at different LLMs and completed rhetorical analysis on the LLM outputs. The goal of the project is for students to learn how to use LLMs ethically and effectively, as well as identify biases and regular word or phrase use within a particular LLM. This project will also help students learn good prompting skills and may help students understand how the tools can be used to level the field in places such as job applications or workplace writing.
